Want Exponential Growth? Invest in Content Marketing
TL;DR: If you want long-term, exponential growth for your small business, one of the smartest investments you can make is in a good content marketing strategy. While it takes a few months to see big growth, once you hit “critical mass” you’ll start seeing massive increases in sales and profits.
I’m a big fan of content marketing.
As venture capitalist Tomasz Tunguz recently wrote,
Like a bank account that starts out small and earns incremental gains, but over time becomes quite large, content marketing efforts require consistent investment but ultimately can yield enormous results.
Like compound interest, content marketing increases the value of an investment many times over – if you give it time to grow instead of cashing out too soon.
Sure, even the term “content marketing” has become somewhat of a buzz term. Once marketers realized how powerful content marketing could be (sometime in 2013, years after I’d successfully started doing content marketing for my clients), everyone tried to jump on the bandwagon.
But as business owners know, just because everyone is doing something doesn’t mean they’re doing it right.
Content marketing takes patience (something many small business owners don’t have).
Content marketing takes restraint (again, something a lot of small business owners struggle with).
Content marketing takes long-term vision (hard to have during the first few months when your content marketing strategy is revving up).
Above all, content marketing takes trust. You can’t run your business and produce the content you need for a successful strategy. You need to hire freelancers or employees, then trust them to produce content that works. The fastest way to kill a good content marketing strategy is micromanaging it.
(Your paid experts are paid to be experts, after all. Micromanaging is like throwing your money out the window.)
If you have the patience, restraint, vision, and trust, your content marketing strategy can bring significant growth for your business.
