Target People In Your Store’s Neighborhood with New Facebook Ad Feature

DM Insider Staff Social Media

TL;DR: Facebook advertising just got better with a feature that enables small business owners to target people physically close to their stores. Here’s how to make the most of it.

This morning, Facebook sent me an email that literally had me saying, “Oh man!” with excitement.

(Yes, I really said that out loud while I was walking to work. Not sure if anyone heard me acting like a geek.)

Here’s the entire email:

Here’s the most important part, in case the image doesn’t work: “Select an area as narrow as 1 mile around your store location to target people who are nearby and live in the area.”

This. is. incredible. A complete game-changer for small businesses with a physical location.

What does this look like in action?

  • Before: Target people who live in a specific city, region, or state. (This can easily target too may people.)
  • Now: Reach the people who are most likely to hop over to your business and check out what you offer.

I mocked up a few Facebook ads that would take advantage of this feature:

froyo ad local

need a new chair local ad

broken phones local ad

(Sorry for the weird blurring, but I didn’t have a different Facebook page ready for the mockup.)

Are you starting to see the potential for this kind of ad targeting? You can do some really, really cool stuff with this… if you use it as part of a well-crafted marketing strategy.

I’ll chat more about creating a well-targeted Facebook ad strategy in an upcoming issue of the TL;DR Report. More info forthcoming.
